A steam locomotive is more commonly referred to as a “pufferbelly” during this age in time. A steam locomotive is the portion of the train that runs off of steam. The steam is produced by burning different materials such as coal, wood or oil. Then it later turns into steam in the boiler department. When it is running you can see the steam coming up through its pipes. The first steam engine was produced in Britain and was popular up until the 20th century. The reason for the decline in its popularity was due to the fact that the train world was introduced to electric and diesel locomotives during the nineties. Not to mention the fact that the steam locomotive requires a lot of different parts. If anything ever goes wrong with it the price to have it fixed can cost a pretty penny.

Since the 1800’s steam locomotives have come a very long way. As a matter of fact many of the original and older steam locomotives are featured in museums for children and other people fascinated with history to learn more about them. The locomotives that are featured in the museums allow people to see how many different types there are as well as how they evolved over the years.
